14 April 2025 – Partisia, a leader in multiparty computation (MPC), and Squareroot8, a provider of quantum-safe communication solutions, alongside NuSpace, a company specializing in IoT Connectivity Services and Satellite-As-A-Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance the future of secure communications.

By integrating a Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG), placed in a satellite in space, with advanced cryptography, this partnership aims to deliver a fully quantum-proof solution for using satellite to provide encrypted correlated randomness to perform Multi-Party Computation (MPC).

By integrating quantum-safe cryptography with QRNG-equipped satellites, this partnership delivers a revolutionary solution for secure communication and multiparty computation - ensuring privacy, efficiency, and quantum-proof security for the future of data processing

Using Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNG) and satellites for Secure Computation

A Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) can create highly secure random keys. A satellite equipped with a QRNG generates a random key and securely sends it to two parties, allowing them to communicate privately using post-quantum cryptography. This setup ensures a quantum-safe encryption method.

Beyond secure communication, the satellite can also preprocess data for Multiparty Computation (MPC). MPC calculations often require specific secret values that must remain private. Instead of generating these values during computation, we can precompute random values and store intermediate results. Later, when real inputs arrive, the preprocessed data speeds up the final calculation.

For example, in some MPC protocols, preprocessing can take 6 days and 23 hours, while the actual computation only takes 1 hour. This is because most of the data exchange happens during preprocessing. If a secure satellite continuously generates and stores these values, the entire process becomes much more efficient.

Why use a satellite?

  • Security: Satellites are difficult to physically access, unlike hardware servers on the ground.

  • Efficiency: Preprocessed computations can be performed weeks in advance, reducing real-time processing delays.

  • Privacy: The satellite never sees the actual data - it only generates random preprocessed values.

By leveraging QRNG-equipped satellites, a trusted, quantum-secure environment for faster and safer cryptographic computations can be created.

What is preprocessing?

In short, preprocessing is the initial stage of data processing, where raw data is prepared for analysis. It improves efficiency, accuracy, and security in various applications, including cryptography and machine learning.

This process is often time-consuming and costly. However, imagine a secure, quantum-proof machine that generates preprocessed "false" numbers. When real data needs to be processed, these false numbers can be combined with the real ones for faster calculations, reducing processing time by up to 80%.

Preprocessing with QRNG-equipped satellites transforms secure computation by drastically reducing processing time, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring quantum-safe security - leveraging space as the ultimate trusted environment for data privacy and cryptographic advances

About NuSpace:

Founded in 2018, NuSpace is revolutionizing global connectivity by designing, building, and launching small satellites that provide essential communication links to remote and underserved areas. With a mission to ensure "Safety for Everyone, Everywhere," NuSpace is at the forefront of delivering innovative Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and is poised to expand its offerings with even more advanced solutions in the near future.

In July 2023, NuSpace successfully launched its technology demonstrator satellite, NuLIoN, marking a significant milestone in its journey. NuLIoN validated the company's IoT connectivity capabilities, enabling small, battery-powered sensor devices to seamlessly transmit data directly to satellites—paving the way for near real-time monitoring and communication in even the most remote locations.

NuSpace was born from the recognition of a critical gap in Asia’s satellite industry—a lack of expertise in satellite mission design. Today, the company is driven by a vision to become the leading small satellite service provider in the Asia-Pacific region. To achieve this, NuSpace offers two primary services: Satellite-As-A-Service (SatAAS) and Satellite-based IoT connectivity.
