New regulation will prevent minors from creating a social media account in Australia by the end of 2025
It likely hasn’t escaped anyone’s attention over the past couple of weeks - whether from magazines or news broadcasts - that TikTok, Instagram, and other social media platforms in Australia are now required to verify that users are at least 16 years old. Parental consent is no exception to this rule. Under Australian law, the tech-companies behind several social platforms must implement effective measures to ensure users meet the age requirement before joining, by the end of 2025. Failing to comply can result in fines of up to $32 million USD.
